Discover the new standard in bottom fishing with the Shimano Aero X5A series of rods. These are dynamic, high-end feeder rods designed for serious anglers looking for the perfect balance between price, quality and cutting-edge carbon fibre technology.
Whether you're fishing for carp in commercial ponds or battling the currents on the Nemunas, the Aero X5A series offers a tool for every situation.
This series is distinguished not only by its modern design, but also by technological solutions that used to be limited to the most expensive models. It is a versatile range of rods that allows you to enjoy fishing both at short distances and with extremely long casts.
HPC (High Pressure Carbon) and Nanosheet technology: the blank is made of high modulus carbon fibre using high pressure technology.
Diaflash Technology: The lower part of the rod (the rod tip) uses a reinforced carbon weave.
Premium hardware: All models feature Seaguide XOG/XQHG rings to prevent tangling (anti-tangle) and a robust Fuji VSS reel holder.
Ergonomic handle: The combination of high quality cork and EVA material ensures a comfortable grip and durability.
TheShimano Aero X5A series is divided into three categories to make sure that every angler finds the perfect tool:
These are the 2.74m - 3.66m models designed for technical, precise fishing at short to medium distances.
Suitable for: Commercial fishing in ponds, lakes, canals, when you need to drop a feeder right next to an island or other shore with surgical precision.
Advantage: The softer action provides excellent shock absorption and reduces the chance of the hook coming loose.
These are 3.66m - 3.96m long feeders with more power in the blank.
Suitable for: Fishing in larger lakes or slow flowing rivers where you need to reach further out.
Advantage: Maintains a good balance between casting distance and the enjoyment of pulling the fish in.
The most powerful models in the series (3.96 m - 4.27 m) for extreme conditions.
Suitable for: Large rivers (e.g. Nemunas, Neris) with a strong current or for very distant casts in large pools.
Advantage: Effortlessly casts heavy lures (up to 160g) and allows you to handle large fish in the current.
Each Shimano Aero X5A feeder comes with three interchangeable carbon Aero X tips (quivertips) for maximum sensitivity in all weather conditions.
Upgrade your fishing arsenal with the Shimano Aero X5A - a rod that gives you confidence with every cast.
The new Shimano Aero X5A is out, but is it any better than the old, well-known Aero X5? Or is it just a marketing gimmick and a colour change?
I took a closer look and I can explain in simple terms what has changed and why the new model (with the letter A) is a step forward.
Here is the biggest difference. The old X5 was a good, solid workhorse, but with the new X5A Shimano has used a technology they call Nanosheet.
What does that mean in simple terms?
The handlebar has become a little lighter and "livelier".
Feel: When you pick it up, the new model feels less bulky, more graceful. It "stands up" more quickly during the cast (no more post-cast swing), which means more accurate casts.
The old model had simpler rings. The new X5A has Seaguide XOG rings.
Why is this important? They are called "anti-tangle". They are shaped so that if the line accidentally gets caught around the ring during a cast, it slides off more easily on its own rather than breaking the tip. This is a big plus if you are fishing with a braided whale or on a windy day.
Here's a visual and comfort upgrade. The old one had a fairly standard handle. The new X5A has received an improved Fuji VSS reel holder and a handle that (at least for me) feels better in the hand. The materials are similar (cork + EVA), but the moulding itself is more comfortable for holding the rod for longer periods.
The good news is that the quivertips have remained compatible, but the new quivertips in the new kit are better aligned with the blank itself. They have a nicer curve, and there is no longer that "corner" at the joint that we sometimes saw on the older cheaper models.
If you have an old X5 and it's serving you well, there's no need to run out and buy a new one. But if you're choosing now and you're thinking about which one to buy, definitely go for the new Aero X5A. For a very similar price you get a lighter, more sensitive tool with better rings. It's simply a more modern, "dressed up" version.
