Sea fishing
Sea fishing: Challenges and Opportunities in the Baltic and North Seas
Sea fishing has long been a lure for Lithuanian fishermen, whether they are recreational fishermen in the Baltic Sea or travel to the Norwegian fjords. The two places have different conditions, equipment and fish species, and it is worth discussing them separately.
Fishing in the Baltic Sea
There are two main types of recreational fishing in the Baltic Sea - from the shore and from boats. Each method has its own characteristics and requires different equipment.
-
Shore-based fishing:
- Flounder
- and invasive grunts are the most common fish caught by fishermen using surf rods from beaches or feeders from piers and bridges.
- are caught in the spring, either by spinning into the sea or by stronger rods with large floats from the shore or from bridges.
- Multi-purpose telescopes and bottom rods are also popular.
- Sturgeon are caught from a bridge or pier in late autumn or winter.
- Bottom rods and stint systems are used.
- Groundfish - an invasive fish, fished with bottom or float rods from piers or bridges.
- Best caught in autumn and spring.
- Stripers - fished with bottom fishing rods in spring and early summer. Strymels are used.
- Salmon smolts are caught mostly in autumn with a powerful long spinning rod.
- The main bait is elongated shiners.
- Carp, bream, bream and other white fish which also spawn in the sea. Fishing with bottom or float rods from the bridge or jetties.

Fishing in Norway
The north of Norway is a true paradise for those seeking to catch halibut, cod or sea bass. These trips, although not cheap, are popular for their spectacular catches and unique fishing experiences.
-
Fishing for cod and halibut:
-
- Powerful saltwater rods with 400-1000 g pilkers or large rubber lures are used for vertical fishing.
- Casting lures with barbless reels and 150-200 g test spinning rods using 100-200 g rubber lures is also a very popular method.
