The Norfin Extreme 5 suit is Norfin's new most advanced and warmest winter suit for those who love to compete, even in the harshest...

Winter fishing suits are a must-have accessory for ice fishing enthusiasts. While in other seasons there are still compromises to be made, in winter, everyone wears winter suits. A winter suit normally consists of high-waisted trousers and a jacket, with a hood as a minimum. Winter suits come with and without a membrane. The price of a suit without a membrane is lower than that of a breathable suit, but it is rare for a fisherman to buy a non-breathable suit a second time. When ice fishing, it is virtually impossible to hit a suit without sweating or freezing. Excess body heat is an inevitable process when moving towards a fishing spot, so a suit must breathe if you want to feel comfortable. When choosing a classic winter suit, the focus should be on breathability rather than waterproofness. Let's say 3000 breaths is already the limit and it is better to look for at least 5000 or more. Waterproofing is not so important, as precipitation is not intense during the winter and 5000-8000 is perfectly adequate, unless you plan to fish in the same suit in the autumn. Then you need to make sure that the waterproofing is at least 10 000.

Winter fishing suits used to be very popular in Lithuania simply because they were thick. The thicker the suit, the warmer it is, and everyone is happy. But times are changing and fishermen are now looking for comfort as well as warmth. And with a suit weighing 6kg, there will be little comfort. Our winters are not so cold anymore either, and it's not every year that you can fish at -15 degrees.

Modern fishing suits for winter

Modern winter suits are made in such a way that the quality of the material and the design accents of the suit keep you warm, rather than having a very thick layer of material as in a classic suit. In terms of materials, the better the performance of the outer membrane, the warmer it will be. Good water retention (20 000) also helps to protect against wind chill and cold temperatures, while a high breathability index (10 000) helps to evaporate sweat quickly and not to wet the underwear, which makes it really cold when it gets cold. The membrane is best supported by a proper insulation layer. The leader here is synthetic Primaloft wool, which does not retain any water molecules for long and has very high insulating properties. At the same time, Primaloft insulation is lightweight and soft, does not restrict movement and helps to reduce fatigue when moving around. You can buy both classic (NOrfin) and modern winter suits (FHM) from us online or in person.
