Marine systematics: Selection by species and fishing method

Sea fishing is not only a relaxing pastime but also a real challenge for every angler. Choosing the right fishing gear, including the right tackle, is essential for successful sea fishing. Each species of fish has its own specific habits and diet, so the tackle must be tailored to it.

Systems by species and fishing method:

Plaice

  • Bottom fishing: Plaice are usually buried in sand or mud, so heavy weights and long-shanked hooks are used for plaice rigs. The hooks are usually separated from the main axis of the system by metal or plastic tubing. This way the hooks are less tangled.
  • Features of the system: Heavy weights help to reach the bottom quickly and long hook shanks reduce the chance of snags.
  • The hooks are usually not decorated with much decoration, a few phosphorescent bubbles at the hook are enough. The key here is the bait you put on the hook. And for that, shrimp or chopped up pieces of fish are best.

Cod

  • Bottom and vertical fishing: Cod are often found in the middle layers of the water or near the bottom. For cod systems, use all-purpose weights or artificial baits such as grey mullet or a large elastic at the bottom, as well as sharp, larger single-point hooks decorated in various ways.
  • Baits: Artificial baits imitating smaller fish (wobblers, shiners), worms and squid can also be used.
  • Fishing techniques: Vertical fishing allows more effective detection of schools of cod, while bottom fishing allows more accurate attraction of fish to the bait.

Mackerel/trout

  • Spinning: Mackerel and mackerel are very active fish, so lighter weights and more small decorated hooks are used for mackerel systems.
  • Decorations include paper or plastic glitter, silicone phosphor or fluorosensitive tubes (called noodles), imitation fish, imitation sea creatures such as squid, shrimps, or simply metal glitter.
  • Fishing Technique: Active baiting to imitate an injured fish.

Otai

  • Bottom fishing: Halibut are often found near the bottom, but can rise to the surface.
  • Otter
  • systems are usually designed for fishing with dead fish and transporting them to the seabed.
  • Fishing technique: Slow dragging of the bait on the bottom or in the middle layers of the water.

Sea bass

  • Spinning: Sea bass are predators, so the systems used for sea bass are similar to those used for cod, but are themselves much longer and reach several metres or more to help locate the height of a school of sea bass.
  • Baits: Artificial baits to imitate smaller fish, worms and squid can also be used, or simply hooks on which to suspend the natural bait.
  • Fishing technique: Active baiting to imitate a wounded fish, and moving up and down, changing depths to find perch.

Systems to be selected according to:

  • Fish species: Each fish has its own specific habits and diet.
  • Fishing location: Depth, bottom structure, current strength all influence the choice of system.
  • Time of year: Seasonal changes can also affect fish behaviour and diet.
  • Bait: The system must be adapted to the bait used.
  • Weather conditions: Wind, swell, water temperature - all of these factors can affect fishing success.

Additional tips:

  • System components: Choose high quality hooks, lines and other system components.
  • Variety of baits: Try a variety of baits to find what the fish like best.
  • Fishing techniques: Experiment with different fishing techniques to increase your chances of catching a fish.
  • Safety: Always wear a lifejacket and keep a safe distance from other anglers.

Conclusion:

A properly selected system is the key to successful sea fishing. Depending on the species of fish, the fishing conditions and the bait used, the best option can be chosen. Remember that fishing is not only about the result, but also about the process itself, allowing you to enjoy nature and relax.
