Glitter: a popular fishing lure for different fish
Glitter is one of the oldest and most popular types of artificial lures for fishing. Made of shiny metal, glitter usually has an elongated, concave shape like a spoon and is one of the first fishing tools that has remained relevant to this day. Although some species are no longer caught with a shiner, it is a key weapon in fishing for species such as salmon, sea bream, whitefish and trout. In Lithuania, glitter is still the most important bait for fishermen who want to achieve the best results.
Design and principle of operation of glitter
Glitter lures, also known as wicket gates, attract predatory fish not only by their shine but also by their special design. This lure works on a simple but highly effective principle: its concave blade shape causes vibrations that create flashes of light and eddies in the water, reminiscent of the movement of a swimming minnow. Fish, especially predators, feel these vibrations with their lateral lines and pay attention to the moving bait. Glitter is often painted in different colours to increase its visibility and effectiveness during fishing. In addition, glitter lures are usually equipped with a treble hook, but increasingly they are also being equipped with a single strong single hook.
Different shiners for different fish
Glosses are extremely versatile and suitable for many different types of fish, but it is important to choose the right type and shape depending on the species and the fishing location. For example, for salmon, thick cut glosses are particularly suitable, as they create the farthest-flying bait. These shiners are well known for their durability and effectiveness in catching these predatory fish.
Winter Glosses
Glosses are also used for winter fishing. In winter, special vertical glosses are used, which are much smaller and narrower than summer glosses. These shiners are designed for ice fishing and allow anglers to fish vertically downwards, ideal for catching fish such as pike or sturgeon.
