Few Lithuanian fishermen's fishing trips start without a float, and for some fishermen it continues because float fishing is so fascinating and exciting. Many of you know that feeling when you lie in bed at night and close your eyes and see a float spawning... A float can be used to catch practically all fish, not only peaceful fish but also predators. And some species of fish can only be targeted practically with a float rod. These include mid-water fish such as roach or rudd, or rope hiding in the grass. In fairness, it is worth mentioning that sportsmen also catch these fish with a feeder and find ways to do so quite effectively, but this does not change the fact that they are the most fun and effective fish to catch with a float.

There are many categories of floats, but the main two remain the same. First of all, floats are classified according to their attachment system: they can be floating or fixed.

Fixed floats are attached to the boat by means of thin rubber bands which press the boat against the float shank. Sliding floats are secured by passing the line through a loop at the bottom of the shank and fixing the float at the desired distance from the hook with a special silicone brake or a knot of thread tied on the line.

Fixed floats are designed for fishing at shallow depths, as you will not be able to fix the float at depths greater than the length of the rod, whereas a floating float can be fixed at any depth you wish. Sliding floats are much more popular for stillwater fishing, whereas fixed floats are more often used for river fishing.

Floats for stillwater fishing, which one to choose?

Want to buy your child their first set of fishing rods? Choose a 2-3g fixed float. They are the easiest to learn how to fish with and catch the first catch of his life.

Want to try fishing yourself on holiday? A 4-5g float is the best choice. It will allow you to fish at different depths and, if necessary, to cast further out.

Looking for a float for fishing for bream in a shallow rural stream? Choose a fixed float of 2-3 grams. It will be sensitive enough and easy to fish with.

Looking for a float for catching tench near grasses? Even though it's shallow, choose a float that floats. It is easier to cast close to the grasses, as a fixed float will have a good length of line remaining to the hook than a floating float. And the shorter the distance, the easier it is to lay the float close to the grass line. This is very important when catching tench. Choose a 2-3g, pencil-shaped float. It will stick less behind the grass.

Want to fish for bream further from the shore? Choose a float. If the water is shallow and you need to cast far, it is best to choose a float that already has a weight fixed to the bottom. Such floats are marked 2+3g, 3+3g, 3+4g, 2+1.5g. The first number refers to the weight of the float itself, while the second number indicates how much lead to hook. If the pool is shallow, it is better to have less additional weight.

Want to fish at great depths for bigger catches and be attacked by small fish while the bait is coming down? Choose a floating 6-8g float. When you need to hang a significant weight of lead to balance the float, the bait will go to the bottom quickly and won't get bitten by a roach or a bream as it descends.

Want to fish in the dark? There are special illuminated floats with elements. The most popular at the moment is the Atora luminous float, which can also be used as a fixed float if required.

Looking for a float for fishing online?

The classic jet floats are fixed, usually in the shape of an inverted droplet. They can be designed to be loaded with a weight of 0.3g or 15g, depending on what and how you are going to fish.

Want to fish for roach in the river? Choose a 0.5-1.5g float depending on the strength of the current. With a sensitive lightweight float you can see the bite much better and the fish feel less resistance and are more bold.

Looking for a float for shad? A 5-8g float in a more natural colour is best for this. To make them less intimidating to wary fish, fishermen sometimes use special transparent bulb-shaped floats that are filled with water and can be cast far away and are low visibility. However, their popularity has declined in recent times because they are very loud and difficult to see for the fisherman.

Stream floats can also be carved out of foam. Such elongated spindle-shaped river floats are made specifically for gillnet fishing. They come in weights of 5-10g.

There are also special floats for ice fishing. Winter floats are small, weighing 0,1-5g. Very popular are the double pin-on floats, which have the main volume underwater and a small part on the surface to indicate a bite.

We have a wide range of floats online for a wide range of uses, at prices that will not scare off the novice fisherman.
