Spinning reel (inertia) for standard spinning reels. Spinning reels were invented in Europe in the 1930s. After the Second World War, a wealthy American sports fisherman, Bache Brown, came to France where he helped develop a compact spinning reel, which he named after himself and brought to the USA. His company was acquired by the toy manufacturer Lionel in 1947 and named Airex. In the same year, Airex launched a new model called the Beachcomber. It was a rather heavy spinning reel, weighing 450 g and holding a lot of line. In the 1960s, many more reels for spinning and beyond were introduced, with Mitchell, RU, Luxor and Centaure reels being produced in France. Alcedo and Delfino in Italy and DAM Quick in Germany. The current giants, Shimano, did not release their first reels until 1978.

Is there a spinning reel for everything?

What is the difference between a spool for spinning and a spool for bottom fishing or float fishing? In principle there may be no difference and the same reel is used by anglers for everything, but as the sport of angling has developed, equipment has improved and anglers themselves have become more demanding, the differences have slowly emerged, and the sport of angling itself is very varied and requires different sizes and transmissions of reels. In most countries, anglers also fish offshore, and saltwater reels are specially made for this purpose, at a higher cost. Reels for spinning are available in different sizes. From 1000 to 14000 sizes for sea angling. In Lithuania, the most popular reels are 1000-4000 sizes. The 1000 size reel is used for ultra-light spinning, while the 4000 size is most popular for catching the most powerful river predators, such as salmon and salmon. With the popularity of large and heavy lures for pike, our anglers have started to use 6000 size reels. These reels are quite heavy and cost more than the normal size, so they are not very popular. However, most anglers prefer multiplier reels to spinning reels for heavy baits.

What is the best speed for a spinning reel?

Another classification of reels is the transmission speed, i.e. the number of times the rotor of the reel rotates during a full revolution of the knob. In Lithuania, the standard transmission speed in spinning reels is 5.0:1. This means that the rotor of the reel turns 5 times in one turn of the knob. However, in the USA, the faster 6.2:1 is much more popular and is slowly gaining popularity in Lithuania. When should I choose a slower reel and when a faster reel? Faster reels should be chosen when you need a 2000 size for Ultra Light (UL) or Super Light (SUL or XUL) spinning. Even when spinning faster, the reel does not cause discomfort and works very easily, so you should not slow down. Fast reels are also popular in the 2500-3000 size range when choosing a reel for trout or bream fishing. There, you often have to pull the bait faster than the current or bite the wobbler suddenly and a faster reel has advantages. Fast spinning reels are also favoured by twitch anglers, where the reel is mainly used to pick up only the loose line under the moving rod. Slower reels are popular when fishing with lures heavier than 10g by jigging, because the constant knob is turned and stopped, turned and stopped, whereas with a fast reel it takes more effort. Slower reels are also more powerful, so they are also used when fishing with heavier baits for pike or when trying to lure powerful river predators.
