Before the Ultegra FC, Shimano had a problem with lightweight reels in the mid-economy price segment. Both Ultegra and Nasci, despite being bulletproof, were made of a tough but heavy plastic body. This allowed the Daiwa LT reels to gain a significant market share, also with the plastic, but already thin and not too strong body. The new 2021 Shimano Ultegra FC is Shimano's first step to win back this segment. Lightweight Ci4+ body, Mikromodule II Hegane serrations, X-Protect water protection, one-piece "seamless" hoop with sweep guide now for just over 100eur. Undoubtedly Shimano Ultegra will be very very popular with UL and light enthusiasts as well as fans of more powerful spinning.
