Platforms for fishing

A fishing platform (seatbox) is basically a chair and a fishing seat in one. The platforms were developed for fishing with folding long pole rods. Since a pole is 10-15 metres long, it is difficult to fish with it from a simple chair, and accessories are needed, i.e. various holders, reels, etc. With the popularity of feeder sport fishing, the same anglers have taken up the feeders and stayed on the same platforms, and the manufacturers have added accessories to suit. Now you won't see a single feeder in competition without a rig.

Is platform fishing just a fad or a necessity?

If you want to fish in a feeder competition, you can't do without a rig. First of all, it's easy to set up platforms on uneven surfaces or in shallow water. So in a competition you don't know which sector you're going to pull out, and whether you can fish from a simple chair or whether you'll have to carry the rig into the water. Secondly, the platform is like a drummer's seat. Everything is conveniently arranged in a neat and tidy way, so that you don't have to waste time and have everything at your fingertips. Another advantage of the platform for fishing is that the feeder arm (rod holder/attachment) attaches stably to the platform, so you can fish comfortably without having to think about where to put your tripod or your pole.

Types of fishing platform

Fishing platforms are primarily classified according to whether they are framed or frameless. The price and sturdiness of the platform also depends on the diameter of the legs used. The cheapest are those with a 25mm diameter leg and the best quality ones with a 36mm diameter leg. Platforms are also available with a fixed seat without backrest or a swivel seat with backrest. Their prices are similar. When choosing a platform, attention should also be paid to the type and principle of leg fixation.

When should I choose a chair and when should I choose a platform?

The main differences between a platform and a feeder chair are that a chair comes without a footstool and to fish in the water you will need to buy a footstool as a separate item when storing, transporting and carrying the equipment to the fishing spot. This is certainly not convenient. However, it is much more comfortable to sit on a chair for a long fishing session. Especially if you are fishing at night. Also, when you can fish from the shore (without having to carry your equipment into the water), it is much easier to carry the chair to the fishing spot. The chair also costs less. However, when fishing with a chair, you won't be able to fish comfortably with a feeder rod, which will simply shake with your every move and make it hard to see the real bite. The conclusion is that if the budget allows it, it is best to have both a rig and a feeder chair. We often have price promotions or bargains on both chairs and platforms.
