Waders, Wading shoes
Shore fishing is popular all over the world, and Lithuania is no exception, but fishing from the shore without waders is not very comfortable, especially when it comes to river fishing. There are three types of waders: neoprene, non-breathable nylon or rubber and breathable membrane.
Neoprene waders
Neoprene waders are medium priced, non-breathable, very warm and heavy. They are designed mainly for sedentary fishing during the colder months of the year. It is not easy to walk further in them without getting sweaty. They also wear out quite quickly and tear easily in thickets. We recommend them only in exceptional cases when fishing, say, in the sea from the shore. The sea water is cold and the fishing is sedentary, so they are suitable for this.
Nylon waders at a good price
Non-breathable nylon waders are the most economical option. They are reasonably durable, but the least safe. They are best suited for warmer weather, as their rubber boots get very cold in cold weather. For colder weather, there are options with EVA boots. This is a really good solution for keeping warm, but Eva boots are very easy to puncture and are not recommended for walking in the undergrowth. Therefore, such waders should be treated with caution when wading in, as they are practically impossible to swim in. If you fall into a hole, it is difficult to escape, so it is advisable to wear a waterproof vest when wading.
Rubber waders have very similar characteristics and are slightly cheaper, but are easier to cut, colder and less comfortable.
Breathable waders for active fishing
The most popular waders among river anglers are breathable membrane waders. They are designed for fishermen who move around a lot and like comfort. It's not too hot in the summer, and with the right clothing, it's no problem to wade in the winter. They come with a pair of boots glued on, or the wading boots can be bought separately. The separately fitted boots are the most comfortable option, but also the most expensive. It is best to wait for a sale on these waders, which can save 20 or 30 per cent on the price. The biggest disadvantage of breathable breeches is that, like all clothing, they wear out. When normal jeans stretch and develop micro-cracks in the seams, we are not uncomfortable, but when a micro-crack appears in the seam of a pair of waders, it becomes a problem. The average lifetime of breathable waders is 1.5 years. If you fish intensively, they can start to leak water in the first year, which is an unsolvable problem for manufacturers. If the fisherman doesn't get the size right and the trousers stretch too much across the lap or knees, it is inevitable that they will not last long.
However, which waders to buy?
If comfort and safety are important to you, and you can spare 150 euros a year, choose breathable waders. However, if you want to spend an average of €30-40 per year on waders, go for nylon waders. You won't be able to do that with breathable ones. You can buy our waders online or try them on and buy them in our physical store.
