Kibble indicators are used to identify a bite when fishing with a bottom or carp rod.

Bite indicators can be very simple - just plastic weights hanging on the line, called monkey bars - or sophisticated electronic alarms, without which carp fishing is simply unthinkable.

Monkeys are used in still water to catch bream or crucian carp with a bottom fishing rod. Simply tie one end of the strike indicator, or rather a string, to the rod holder of the pole and hook the monkey onto the line. The rod is placed in a horizontal position, the indicator hangs and its weight puts a slight tension on the line. The indicator shall either go up or down during the nodding, depending on which way the fish is pulling the line. Slightly more modern strike indicators called swing indicators work on the same principle. They can be used both with and without an electronic bite indicator. As, by the way, is the plastic monkey. Instead of a string, a swing has a metal rod, one end of which is placed on a peg and the other hooked onto a line. A sliding weight is placed in the middle of the bar to apply different tensions to the line.

Electric strike indicator

In recent years, feeder fishing aids have been developed which are also known as strike indicators, although they are not attached to the line but to the top of the feeder. When the tip of the rod twitches during a bite, the indicator identifies the bite and starts to light up or flash. Such strike indicators are able to distinguish between a strike and a simple dragging of the line by a bottom-rolling feeder or by grasses carried by the flow of the current behind the line. The cost of such indicators is also not high and is affordable for every angler.

Fishing beacon

Electronic bite alarms are assistants that are used in conjunction with swings. The swing tensions the line, which is not placed on the rod holder of the pole, but on a wheel screwed to the pole or to a stand, which starts to rotate as the line moves and signals a bite with sound and lights.

Electronic bite alarms can be sold individually or in sets. Kits of electronic beacons usually include a remote control. You can leave your fishing spot and 100 or even 200m away you can see when and on which rods the fish are hooked. You can buy inexpensive hook-up alarms online from us for the more amateur or beginner angler. However, nowadays you can get very simple sets of alarms with all the functions you need for 100€.
