Feeder rods
Bottom fishing rods are fishing rods designed to catch peaceful fish from the bottom. This is the popular name for all rods of this type, whether it is a telescopic rod, a feeder or a cheap carp rod. However, little by little the concepts are changing and bottom fishing and feeder rod fishing are taking on different meanings. Bottom fishing and fishing with bottom rods is now more synonymous with carp and crucian carp fishing, where fishing is done more passively, with the rods on a rack or stakes, and with the use of a strike indicator attached to the line to indicate a strike. These can be simple bite indicators costing less than a euro, known as 'bumpers' or 'swings', or electronic bite indicators, the prices of which vary according to features and quality. Such fishing uses inexpensive and slender carp rods, feeder rods with large rings or telescopic rods, which are going out of fashion. A bottom fishing rod set is a fairly popular gift for the beginner angler, as this type of fishing does not require a lot of knowledge and investment.
Feeder rods
Feeder rods are modern fishing rods used for active bottom fishing. The rod itself is made up of three or two main parts, plus interchangeable tops. Feeder rods usually come with two or three interchangeable tops of different hardness. The hardness of the tips is selected according to the fishing conditions and the weight of the feeder to be cast. When fishing with feeders, a single rod is usually used and the aim is to bait one specific point, thus concentrating the fish in one place. The bite is visible by observing the rod tip. No additional indicators are used. Feeder rods are also the only effective way to fish in stronger currents, as bottom rods and bait indicators on the line will not be effective in the current due to the constant tension of the line and the reel.
Faders, lengths and classes
Faders come in a variety of lengths. The shortest ones start at 2.4 m and the longest feeder rods are 4.2 m. The length of the rod is usually an indication of the distance at which you want to fish. Short rods are used for short distances and long rods for long distances.
Feeder rods have started to be divided into the following groups according to their purpose and power:
Picker - the weakest and shortest rod, designed to fish close distances of 7-20 m. Their blank action is parabolic or semi-parabolic. They are mostly bought by sport fishermen, as such rods are of little interest to the amateur angler. Pickers are 2,4-3 m long. Their casting test ranges from 15 to 40 g.
The standard feeder (also called Precise) is 3,3-3,9 m long and is designed for more still water, medium and longer distances. The standard action of these feeders is moderate or moderate fast. The casting test of this feeder ranges from 45 to 90 g, and sometimes they are also available up to 120 g, but this is already similar to the Distance category.
Distance feeders are powerful rods designed to reach long distances. They have a very powerful blank, are not very curved and are not afraid of heavy loads. They are fast action blank rods, best for long distance casting. They usually have larger rings and are perfect for fishing in strong current, not necessarily for long distances. This class of fiddlers ranges in length from 3.6 m to 4.2 m and has a top casting test of 80 - 150 g.
The most powerful are the River fiders. They are designed to fish exclusively in rivers with heavy-weight feeders. The action of these fiddlers is moderate fast and the casting test is as high as 250 g. They are available in lengths of 3.9 m or 4.2 m. They are not designed for long casts, as this is rarely the case when fishing in rivers with strong flow. Their purpose, roughly speaking, is simply not to break when throwing very heavy weights.
Feeder, bottom fishing rods - what are the prices?
What does the price of a feeder depend on? Like all fishing tackle, feeder rods vary in quality and price. It depends on many factors: the material of the blank, the quality of the rings, the quality of the handle and the quality of the reel holder. All of these influence the cost of the product and thus the price of the shelf. In terms of what gear could be recommended as the best value for money rods, things are changing very quickly, but at the moment, the premium category is led by the Drennan Acolyte, the high-end category by the Shimano Aero X5 rods, the mid-range category by the Nytro Big River feeders, and the economy category by the Akara Magista.
